If you are serious about preparing for the upcoming ICF Freestyle World Championships in Columbus this is just the camp for you. The focus of this camp will be placed on high end sports performance and will be led by the legendary coach Jacko Jackson, making his grand return as a Head Coach of the EWWS. You will learn about how to deal with the emotions of international competition, the secret ingredients that make champions champions and, of course, you will learn about high end wave freestyle techniques. To help Jacko on his task, former World Champion and EWWS founder Quim Fontané will be completing the coaches line up for the Camp, bringing further insight on advance and expert freestyle techniques and combos as well as experience in International Competition.
- Ok, that sounds like a really badass team of coaches, but what are we actually going to do and paddle, guys?
The trip will start with a few days of getting into the swing of waves in Montreal itself. The Lachine Rapids offer one of the best and reliable wave freestyle playgrounds on Earth. The spots are varied and there are waves for of all sizes and for all tastes. Of course, the most famous of them all is Big Joe, an amazingly bowl-shaped wave that will allow perfect practice of the whole range of wave paddling tricks. In the same rapid we can find other waves such as Pyramid Wave or Mavericks. Further down the Saint Laurent River lays the Habitat 67 wave which we might also hit during our stay in Montreal.
After a few days in Montreal we will move to the Ottawa Valley. We will be there in the perfect season to get Garburator at a good level. There are also plentiful of alternative features such as Corner Wave, Baby Face, Push Button... Life in the Valley means we might go play some golf or go fishing as side activities.
Finally, the last few days will again be spent in Montreal paddling the Lachine Rapids to make logistics for the departure day easier and because Lachine are just awesome.
FLY IN/OUT & PICK UPS – We are currently looking at flight logistics and will update you with the relevant information once we have all details sorted.
GAME PLAN - This is just to give you an idea of what we're planning to do. However plans might change slightly.
Day 1 - 4 - We will make Montreal and the Lachine our home. The water is big and the waves are great, there is a bit of a paddle to get back to the wave after a flush, but the rides on Pyramid and Big Joe makes it all well worth the effort!
We might also visit Habitat 67 although it is meant to be packed with river surfers this days...
Days 5 - 12 - Ottawa Valley living with daily missions to different sets of rapids according to water levels. McCoy's going to be everyone's favourite and training in Garb will give us a good chance to paddle a pushy wave like Good Wave in Columbus. The Ottawa also offers many other features and opportunities for training of which we will make the most of.
Days 13 - 15 - Final days in Canada and now back in Big Joe, we will have an opportunity to bring into play everything we have learnt and compare it to what we were able to do at the start of the trip. You will not believe how far you've come.

HOW GOOD SHOULD I BE TO ENROLL IN THIS CAMP?
This will be a Camp focused at getting you ready for the 2023 ICF Freestyle World Championships. We are targeting paddlers who are part or close to make to their respective national teams. Should you be put off if you're not there yet? Absolutely not! We are always happy to welcome paddlers eager to learn and with great passion and curiosity. If these traits define you we guarantee it won't be long until you can claim your spot on your national team and we will be thrilled to be able to coach you too!
HOW DOES THE ACCOMMODATION LOOK LIKE?
We are currently looking for accommodation options - more info soon.
WHAT KAYAKING GEAR DO I NEED TO BRING WITH ME?
Summer in Canada is hot and the water both in the Saint Laurent and Ottawa is warm at this time of the year. We strongly suggest that you bring short sleeve tops or topdecks. The EWWS rashvests will do their job phenomenally. Some short swimming trunks will do the thing but remember to bring some sort of river shoes as the walks to the put in and take out aren't always short.
MY ENGLISH IS NOT THAT GOOD… IS THIS OK?
Can you think of any better opportunity to study English without even noticing it? Sessions will be run in English but in case you don’t understand or you have any questions, our coaches do speak French, Spanish and Catalan. Other paddlers may be able to help you as well. Don’t worry, we will find the way to understand each other and your English will improve by the day! I mean we even learnt to communicate with Nanase, and that's quite the feat.
